2020 taught us so much! We learned to change and adapt. To cherish human connection more than ever. To love big and support local. That “home” really matters. As we reflect on this past year and make goals for the new, we are drawn back to our mission and aim at Gatehouse no1 but with more vigor and meaning than ever before: LOVE WHERE YOU LIVE. Below are 3 easy tips to create meaningful, intentional, and purposeful spaces, environments, and connections to help you truly love where you live.

Like many of you, we’ve spent more time in our homes this past year than ever before! Home has really become a safe haven, and because we spend so much time in this space, it’s important to make it a place of comfort as well as practicality. Luckily, good design meets both form and function. So upgrade that sofa. Refresh with extra pillows and throws. Put a nail (or two) in the wall and finally get that artwork hung! Create a space you are excited to see each day by adding elements, colors, and fragrances that inspire you. Don’t be afraid to experiment with that new bold hue you’ve been eyeing or project you’ve been nervous to begin. Now is the time!

We’ve always LOVED LOCAL at Gatehouse but 2020 helped us see what an important role we all play as a community. Many businesses have suffered during this difficult year. Show your support by buying local! We like to gift ourselves a meal out each week at a new-to-us local restaurant as well as supporting some long-time favorites. This does wonders for us (who wants to do dishes 5 times a day?!) by giving us something fun to look towards each week and can make a huge impact on small businesses. Many businesses are adapting to make your experiences more safe and exclusive (pictured above is a private candle pouring session at our favorite local candle shop, The Wick Lab)! Share your eats and adventures on instagram and tag #Gatehouseloveslocal or local hashtags from your community. Word of mouth will always be the best form of advertisement.

Social distancing has forced us to interact in safe, new, and innovative ways. We’ve found that a continual connection to family and friends is essential! Grab your diet coke, hit the sofa, and have a marco polo date with friends (we are loving this app!). Or create a virtual bookclub (we recommend audio books while you are driving or walking! Libby is a free app that connects with local library audiobooks). Or kick it old school and send some snail mail (like a gift card or flowers) to loved ones. Reaching out will brighten your mood as well as those you connect with.
